Walking up Commercial Street the other day I happened across Trade Cafe, desperate for a flat white I detoured to check it out. I am a bit skeptical of cafes in Shoreditch, they all tend to go for ‘cool’ over good coffee, and don’t even get me started on the stuff the trendy call ‘food’. Thankfully Trade appears to be a rarity, spacious seating, tasty food, good coffee … and its cool to boot.
The first thing to say about Trade is how much I love the owner?/manager? who puts so much care into making sure you are happy. The service is of a level you expect in a restaurant, not a cafe. Its the little touches like bringing over water, and checking in to make sure we are happy with the food – love!
And the food, the counter is normally full of salads, treats, and tarts but I always seem to be drawn to the all day brunch. I rate a lunchtime poached egg as one of the highlights of 21t century living and Trade does not disappoint. My particular favorite is the bacon roll which you can add a poached egg to for a pound. They also have an option which is big back home, but is yet to make it to mainstream London – the smashed avocado on toast. I’m not sure if this is a seasonal thing or will be a permanent fixture, regardless it is nice to see.
When you add beautifully crafted coffee to the mix it just became a regular hang out.
Thanks Trade, love you.
