This is an ancient art installation (2003) but it is still one of my absolute favourites.
The Massachusetts Mental Health Center was going to be demolished after 90 years. To celebrate and commemorate the end of its life, it was handed over to Anna Schuleit to make some art.
She installed flower, lots and lots of flowers. In every corridor, room and office there were flowers.
I don’t quite know why this moment of art has stuck with me for so long. Perhaps because it is so poetic and quiet. The art is not the focus, its intention is to give space for a memorial – for people to remember the past.
