I swear I was trying to be healthy, but then the damned New Zealand Society had to go and email me about doughnuts. Not just any doughnuts, not just New Zealand doughnuts but brand spanking new New Zealand doughnuts from a company with excellent branding. Sigh, there was nothing for it I had to have Crosstown doughnuts in my life.
Crosstown are the new kids on the block, the block being Leather Lane Monday to Friday – impossible for me to get to with work. Thankfully though they were at the Seven Dials festival so I had one magical chance of doughnut heaven. I went to order my one doughnut and somehow walked away with a family box of six. It was only as I was walking away that I realised my family was in New Zealand and I had unwittingly entered into a solo doughnut challenge. I went home and got to work.
THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE, I have six doughnuts in front of me and they are all mine. I love the look of the PB&C the most, and the toppings were delicious, I just wish the inside tasted less like creme patissiere and more like peanut butter.
Doughnut 2: VANILLA BEAN DOUGHNUT
Ooo look at me eating my second doughnut in ten minutes and no one judging me for it. Love the intense vanilla flavour of this one, and partially like the branded cross on it.
Still going strong, all those doubters need to recognise. I do love a good creme brulee doughnut, something so satisfying about the crunchy topping. The sugar completely changed the textural adventure in your mouth, highly recommended.
Doughnut 4: CINNAMON RING DOUGHNUT
Oh god what have I done. This I am thinking of as a palate cleanser since I am over half way through my epic challenge. Nice to have the ratio of cinnamon to sugar fall on the flavour side for once.
Doughnut 5: VANILLA BEAN DOUGHNUT
Someone tell my family I love them when I slip into my doughnut coma. Why are there two vanillas…WHY.
I DID IT I BLOODY DID IT. I would like to thank the academy, and my Mom and Jesus. The jam inside this beauty tasted like your Nana would make, and the touch of freeze dried raspberries at the open end (even though it looks unsightly) was the perfect sharp addition.
Crosstown Doughnuts you rock my socks, and I think I now need to enter a doughnut 12 step program.
